At Sowebio, we’re passionate about showcasing our team’s work and highlighting what it really means to be a web designer in Charente-Maritime today.
Through the Renomad project — a van renovation company — this expertise came to life in full. To design a website that’s clear, immersive, and true to the client’s world, we drew on the skills of Maëlle, our web designer based in Charente-Maritime. From art direction to UX/UI choices, she shares her vision, her workflow, and her approach to creating a showcase website that reflects local, artisan values.

Renomad Logo
Why did you choose this direction for the Renomad website?
From the start, the client wanted to keep the spirit of their old site — a warm vibe that reflects the values of the 1970s. They didn’t want something too modern or cold. The goal was to create a strong visual identity that reflects their craftsmanship, materials, and the “converted van” aesthetic. The typography used on the site was inspired by Renomad’s existing logo, with its rounded, psychedelic shapes that evoke the hippie style of the 1970s — giving the site a retro feel that’s both consistent and instantly recognizable.
How do you capture a 1970s vibe in a modern website?
I worked from 1970s graphic references without falling into cliché. We used a warm color palette (orange, sand), organic curves, and a retro, rounded, highly readable font. To extend that vintage feel, I also created flowers inspired by the “Flower Power” movement, which were integrated into the layout as decorative elements. Custom van illustrations were also designed to enrich the site’s visual world. The overall design remains clean, responsive, and user-focused.
What were the technical challenges for this kind of showcase website?
The main priority was smooth navigation on mobile devices, with fast loading times despite the visuals. The site was designed with clear content blocks, a fixed menu, strong visual hierarchy, and noticeable calls to action. UX (user experience) is just as important as aesthetics.
Some of the UX choices we made:
Structured sections for each service
Clear, easy-to-read titles
Visual consistency across all pages
A carefully optimized responsive design for smooth browsing on any device
What’s the advantage of working locally?
Working with a web designer in Charente-Maritime helps build a real relationship of trust with the client. You better understand their environment, target audience, and challenges. In the case of Renomad, in-person meetings were key to shaping the design. Being close geographically also makes it easier to communicate and schedule meetings quickly, creating a smoother workflow and allowing faster adjustments throughout the project.
